Karyotyping for Research and Industry

Located at the University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario, Karyotekk Inc. is a leading provider of commercial karyotyping and chromosome analysis services for animals, gametes, embryos, and stem cells. Our expert team is dedicated to delivering accurate and reliable results to support research, breeding programs, and medical diagnoses.

Our goal is to detect chromosomal abnormalities and aid in advancing scientific understanding, ultimately contributing to improved veterinary diagnostics and the development of targeted therapies for enhanced animal health and well-being. Chromosomal abnormalities and variations have the ability to impact the clinical potential of stem cells and are contributing factors to infertility, malformations, intersex and fetal death in producer herds.

Karyotype Chromosomal Analysis

  • Karyotyping is a genetic test that analyzes the size, shape and number of chromosomes in a cell or cell population to determine the genetic stability of the cells and detect genetic abnormalities

  • Here at Karyotekk Inc we conduct a multi-step process that transforms live cells into examinable digital images of chromosomes. Starting with live cells collected aseptically, in the laboratory the cells are cultured and allowed to grow for several days. Once we have grown a sufficient number of cells, the DNA is preserved through a fixation process and slides are prepared.

Stained slides are then examined under a microscope and chromosomes are analyzed and a karyotype is produced according to available international guidelines.
